Karon Magiji Medical Outreach

Karon magiji is a rural community located behind the National Military Cemetery, a few meters away from the popular city gate, along Umar Musa Yar’Adua expressway FCT. The area is home to low income earners and some natives of Abuja, called the Gbagyi or Gwari. The community has a total population of about 10,000 persons, having 60% of their population as women and children.

Mirian Pat Foundation visited the community on the 9thth  of may 2018 and upon interactions with the people, the foundation got to realize that, the health challenges faced by the people are immense, this is due to the alarming rate of poverty, lack of proper personal hygiene amongst others. In order to make sure these people get the health care they so desperately need, the foundation in collaboration with the Society for Family Health (SFH), Center for right to Health and the FCT Social Development Secretariat, carried out a medical outreach in the community on the 16th of may 2018, where different drugs were distributed to them after carrying out various medical tests by medical experts of SFH (HIV, Hepatitis B, Malaria, STDs, STIs, Blood sugar level and Blood pressure test etc.) However the foundation referred patients with severe cases to Wuse General Hospital here in FCT for further diagnosis and proper treatment, promising to do a follow up on the patient, monitor how treatment is ongoing and taking care of the medical bills.
