Target Audience:      The hungry people, orphans and beggars on the streets of Abuja.

Date: 16th October, 2020

This day marks the foundation of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) that happened on October 16, 1945.

Today and beyond is a day against hunger. A day when a step should be taken towards eradication of hunger, if not globally, locally. This is a day we must come together to ensure that those who are less privileged around us and in our local communities, must stop being hungry, and must always have what to eat.

World Food Day is not only about celebrating the amazing food that we have the privilege of indulging in, but it is about raising awareness for people who do not have such privilege. There are people all over the world who are suffering from hunger. Starvation is a massive problem in a number of countries, and we need to do more to raise awareness and combat this problem. It seems crazy that we live in a world whereby a large portion of the population can indulge in any sort of food they wish without a second thought while others struggle to put food on the table.

We can also use World Food Day to raise awareness about healthy diets and what our bodies need. In recent times, education has grown about healthy diets and what foods are good and bad for our bodies, but we are not there yet! World Food Day gives us a great opportunity to further education and awareness in this area.

The importance of good food in the lives of people cannot be overemphasized, especially at a time like this, when feeding has become difficult especially for the poor, as a result of the socio- economic effects of the COVID- 19 pandemic. It is indeed important to address issues of food and feeding at this time, to assist in the provision of food materials to those who lack them and the means to get them, especially the orphans on the streets, the beggars, etc.

In line with the sustainable development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), to instill zero hunger, the Mirian Pat Foundation in continuous support and collaboration with the United Nation and the international community, aims to achieve the elimination of hunger in our societies. In line with this, the foundation fed over a hundred people to mark this special day.
